ART - ADVANCED COURSE

This course is designed to fine tune a developing a team or competitor and show you how to set a winning strategy. It is assumed that participants in this course have a basic understanding of adventure racing and the skills required. We will not be teaching the basics of skills such as navigation for example, but rather discussing the finer points of aggressive navigation and routefinding strategy. Similarly, it is expected that everyone participating in this course has a strong commitment to taking their participation in adventure racing to the next level. Everyone will be pushed by instructors and teammates to work to their maximum in a team setting.

The Advanced Course is focused around participation in a mock adventure race. We will take you through all steps of preparing for and participating in a weekend race starting with team strategy and goal setting and ending with a wrap up of what actually happened on the racecourse. Friday will consist of setting the goals for each team (individual participants will be placed on a team) and establishing commitment level to those goals. We will also discuss individual roles within the team and then begin our pre-race preparations. On Saturday morning the race simulation will begin with the distribution of the maps and course description followed by a navigation strategy discussion. All participants will then head to the start line for a 2:00pm race start. The following is an overview of the schedule for the 3 days.

LEAD INSTRUCTORS

Each team will consist of 4 participants and one instructor. Instructors will do the entire racecourse with the team and will serve as an additional team member although the instructor will NOT be making navigational decisions or leadership decisions for the team. The instructor can assist other team members physically but will be more focused on keeping the team members focused on their role on the team and their goal for the race. PLEASE NOTE, the instructor will be following our "Ruthless compassion" philosophy. Although we will be very conscientious of potential injuries we will be encouraging you to step out of your comfort zone. We don't care if you like us, we just want you to achieve your goal.
